The Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ 2 brings local generative AI capabilities to the Raspberry Pi 5, enabling advanced workloads such as large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs) to run directly on the device. Built around the powerful Hailo-10H AI accelerator and equipped with 8GB of dedicated on-board RAM, it allows demanding AI tasks to run locally while keeping the Raspberry Pi 5 CPU free for other processing.
Delivering up to 40 TOPS of INT4 inferencing performance, the AI HAT+ 2 is optimized for modern AI applications including speech-to-text, translation, visual scene understanding, and generative AI pipelines. While designed for generative workloads, its computer vision performance is comparable to the original Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ (26 TOPS), making it suitable for both vision and multimodal AI tasks.
The AI HAT+ 2 connects to the Raspberry Pi 5 via the PCI Express interface and is automatically detected when running an up-to-date Raspberry Pi OS image. It integrates seamlessly with Raspberry Pi’s camera software stack, allowing supported rpicam-apps post-processing tasks to leverage the AI accelerator without manual configuration.
Fully compliant with the Raspberry Pi HAT+ specification, the board is supplied with an optional heatsink, stacking GPIO header, spacers, and screws. For users running benchmarks or intensive AI workloads, installing the included heatsink is recommended to avoid thermal throttling.
